2005 Nominee Announcement Party

I
t was an evening dedicated to the unknown, the new, the adventurous, and the innovative.

On Monday July 18th, the NY It Awards officially announced the nominees for the 2004-2005 season & celebrated their 1st year. The New York Innovative Theatre Awards (IT Awards) are given annually to honor individuals & organizations who have achieved artistic excellence in the Off-Off-Broadway theatre.

It Awards Founders and Executive Directors:  Nick Micozzi, Shay Gines, Jason Bowcutt

The productions nominated are not the only innovative highlight, The IT Awards judging process is a peer evaluation system. This provides opportunities for artists to share their work with one another as well as new audiences. Each eligible production is required to have a delegate judge attend 3 other productions registered with the It Awards, the audience also accounts for 25% of the total voting score, creating an even ebb and flow of scoring and a true peer system.

Quoting their press materials "The New York IT Awards organization recognizes the unique & essential role Off-Off-Broadway plays in contributing to American & global culture. They believe that publicly recognizing excellence in Off-Off-Broadway will expand audience awareness & appreciation of the full New York theatre experience"

This September they will celebrate Off-Off-Broadway with the First Annual New York IT Awards Ceremony, bringing to life their mission to honor these extraordinary artists. It will be an evening of celebration not only for the award recipients, but for all people working in and inspired by this innovative community.
