The Life And Hard Times Of Guy Terrifico

Unfortunately, this faux documentary/mockumentary is not so terrifico. The film attempts to tell the story of outlaw Canadian country singer Guy Terrifico. Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, Levon Helm, and Ronnie "The Hawk" Hawkins appear as themselves as interview subjects discussing their "memories" of Terrifico. While they are great, the rest of the film is rife with cliches and uninspired acting. Perhaps the problem is that there are so many real life country singers who have led a more interesting and tragic life than the fictional Teriffico. For example check out Margaret Browns "Be Here To Love Me" - an excellent documentary about the late Texas troubador Townes Van Zandt. An example of a music mockumentary that works well is Christofer Guest's "A Mighty Wind".
