The Gallery at 3rd Ward is proud to present Power House, a design show featuring works by Scott Braun, Kate Hawes, Kush, Jon Lott, Ellen O'sullivan (of EOS studio), Mark Righter (of Cambium studio) and Mike Ross (of the Madagascar Institute). Power House will be on view November 20th - December 6th, 2006. A reception will be held on Thursday, November 30th 2006 6-9 pm. Gallery hours are Tue and Thu-Sun, 11am to 9pm or by appointment. 3rd Ward is open Mon-Sat, 8am to midnight and Sun, noon to midnight.
Power House features Brooklyn based designers and architects who flawlessly mix the principles of design and sculpture in their work. The show is filled with functional everyday items taken to a new level of interpretation. 3rd Ward is located in East Williamsburg industrial park, a manufacturing district. All around designs move from the drawing boards and become tangible products. Power House celebrates this neighborhood and Brooklyn creativity. The works in Power House are rooted in an understanding of raw materials. Braun's furniture eco a ranch lifestyle. Braun creates organic designs that are powerful and elegant. The same sincerity of material is true of Ross' work. Ross uses straightforward welds to create his designs, fostering a raw look and feel. Righter's furniture has strong elements of movement. His Spring chair (pictured) combines play with the passive task of sitting. Righter's Slippery Bamboo Shelves seem straight forward, but their modular design allows the user to constantly change their shape. The sense of play is also prevalent in Kate Hawes' designs. In Power House she shows sculptural games and designs.
