I have seen many of her productions in Paris, where she is well known and an audience hypnotizer. I have seen many, many Il Trovatore, but none to match the imagination and intelligence of her Paris presentation. The same can be said of her understanding of Boris Gudonov. From the opening moment you felt you were in the crowd on the stage and living the fears and hopes of the Russian people. I can see why the Russians have given her so much freedom and honor for the way she has captured the spirit of the people. We miss her in Paris while she gathers laurels elsewhere in the world.
