he Talos TheatreEnsemble is a professional repertory theatre company based in California under the direction of Arthur Meiselman. It’s 2001 season will include two new productions:
A new translation and adaptation of Euripides’ MEDEA, one of the most powerful and
contemporary dramas in Western theatre... contemporary in its portrayal of a woman
trapped between her submission to a man’s love and her refusal to submit to the dominance
of a man’s society. The tragedy she inflicts, the redemption she receives... provides a
shattering vision that has thrilled audiences around the world for over 2000 years.
This Talos production is staged with modern mixed-media, enhanced with masks and
living statuary, strongly influenced by Kabuki theatre in style and the on-stage character
of rhythmic chorus and percussion.
MAHARANDA, the first in a trilogy entitled, Night Rituals, by Arthur Meiselman... based on
an ancient Atlantisean myth that prophesied the emergence of a new “first” human to appear
at the stroke of midnight of the new millenium, 2001. Not yet female or male but still a fully
sensual, sexual being, the “innocent” desperately searches for and finds its creator...
and finds MAHARANDA! In a series of montaged episodes, with three performers portraying
the main character simultaneously, Talos presents a journey... a voyage... a moveable feast
that combines strong acting, brilliant design, and the strident use of both music and lighting
as primary characters on stage.
