Mea Culpa

 Kathi Wolfe

I let your cat out of the bag,

sent your chickens home to roost,

made your hair stand on end,

took the wind out of your sails,

huffed and puffed and blew

your house down,

crossed your heart,

bled it dry.

If only you had smiled

at me that summer night.
