A Closer Look
The Photography of Jon Rendell

Melbourne, Australia has been under a severe lockdown for over three months after a spike in Covid cases in June. Compulsory mask wearing ($200 fine), and a 5km travel limit from your home ($1652 fine) are just a few of the rules strictly enforced by police. With my outside world vastly diminished, I decided to look more closely within this world for these photographs. I purchased a cheap $5 close-up filter online and took these photos from my garden and peeping over the fence of neighbours.

Scene4 Magazine - Jon Rendell | www.scene4.com

Jon Rendell was born into an auteur/photog family in Melbourne, Australia, in 1957, He grew up around cameras and film. He honed his craft under renowned photographer Athol Shmith at what is now Swinburne University (Prahran Campus, Melbourne). He was always captivated by shadows and finds himself hard-wired to focusing on the transitory, abstract shapes that come and go with the available light. For more of his photography in Scene4, check the Archives.
