The winner of the “Leone d'Oro” is a devastating reminder of the hypocrisy of Britain before the Abortion Act. Another remarkable film by Leigh, known for his emphasis on slice-of-life realism.

The Aviator

Is it a bird, is it a plane or is it Supermartin? It’s a pretty good film, entertaining enough because of the first-class photography and production values. Leonardo DiCaprio is excellent; the rest of the excellent actors are embarassing as they caricature their way through a numb script. Once again, Scorsese, who would be a master evidently will never learn how to tell a story. And this is a story-less, undramatic film.

At Denison University in Granville, Ohio, a touring group of young performers from New York City kept this sampling of Hispanic and African American sexual stereotypes from falling off track. They were, more often than not, funny, witty and painfully upended simultaneously.
