Welcome to Hell

Patrick Walsh | Scene4 Magazine

Patrick Walsh

I grew up in Queens

With graffiti on the trains.

The 7 ran by my school

And we thought it was cool

To keep an eye-out in class

For our favorites to pass:

Caine One, Tac II,

Chi-Chi 1-0-9.

But to find the grail of the El

You had to see Welcome to Hell —

At one end Alice Cooper,

A flaming skull down the other,

The famous gates in the middle,

And then that magic title.

Now I ride each day from Jersey.

I saw a tag sprayed on a factory.

These stainless cars all look the same;

Not one can take me home.

Welcome-to-Hell-cr2
